Cast Iron “SWITCH” Railway Sign

Rare cast iron railway sign.
A very heavy points signalling sign stating the term “SWITCH” that would have originally been bolted to a centrally fixed wooden post positioned trackside along a railway line.
The term “switch” isn't a commonplace term for British points identification, being predominantly used on US railroads.
It's believed that only one or two lines within the UK used switch for their points signage most notably along the Wollaton line within Nottingham.

A great decorative industrial piece with a lightly waxed finish that highlights the warm rust and age worn marks adding a great deal of appeal to this item.
A very rare piece of British trackside railwayana.
